They are links in a chain of mentorships dating from the days of operetta to Lin-Manuel Miranda\u2019s<em>\u00a0Hamilton<\/em>. Otto Harbach and Jerome Kern mentored Oscar Hammerstein, leading to Hammerstein\u2019s groundbreaking collaboration with Kern on\u00a0<em>Showboat<\/em>. Rodgers and Hammerstein went on to change the rules of successful musicals, which young Stephen Sondheim absorbed as Hammerstein\u2019s prot\u00e9g\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>We examine how these mavens of musical theater passed along their knowledge and influenced generations of artists. We also consider how the younger generations took these lessons and transformed them into Broadway as we know it today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This event is exclusive to current CHPT members and Save Our Opera House donors.\u00a0<\/strong>Each member\/donor may attend at no charge and can bring up to two guests per event.
