But behind the scenes, it\u2019s been a different story. In this lecture, we will explore some of the women who have broken the barriers in a predominantly male-based hierarchy of directors and choreographers, and we will examine ground-breaking musicals that present empowered female characters. Video clips will include scenes from\u00a0<em>Gypsy<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Wicked<\/em>,\u00a0<em>The Lion King<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>The Secret Garden<\/em>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Agnes De Mille<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 first director\/choreographer<\/li>\n<li><em>Gypsy<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 strong female character<\/li>\n<li><em>The Secret Garden<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 first all- female writing\/directing team<\/li>\n<li><em>The Lion King<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 Julie Taymor, first Tony-winning female director<\/li>\n<li><em>Wicked<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 strong female characters, a show about women<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>This event is exclusive to current CHPT members and Save Our Opera House donors.\u00a0<\/strong>Each member\/donor may attend at no charge and can bring up to two guests per event.
